IN HER OWN WORDS…

MY Y FACTORS: “Adventure, Culture & Community and The Unexpected”

Y WISDOM: “I am a big believer in involving children in travel experiences, as it significantly influences their perspectives. My second tip would be to blend spontaneity with organisation, for a perfect mix of planned adventures and delightful surprises.”

Y WISHLIST: “I am a huge Disney fanatic so it's always been a goal of mine to visit all the Disney’s around the world - and also experience the cities they reside in.  I would also love to visit Antarctica and Scandinavia - there is something magical about the idea of being so ‘isolated’ in pristine wilderness, with unforgettable landscapes and unique wildlife.”

It really is “a small world after all” for Y Travel’s resident devotee of all things Disney, Kara Cohen!  Looking back on her own childhood, Kara describes the ‘privilege’ of being part of a family who prioritised travel, and in doing so instilled in her a sense of wanderlust, and a level of cultural empathy and understanding that is only truly learned from experiencing different cultures from a young age.

Now with young children herself, Kara intends on creating the same enriching life experiences for her own family that she enjoyed in her childhood, to help create lasting memories and share with them a profound understanding of the diversity of cultures and communities around the world - and of course the joys of The Happiest Place on Earth!

Recently joining the travel industry, (and our Y Travel team), from a professional background of working in health, fitness, and nutrition, Kara has found many common skills shared by the two seemingly very different vocations. Utilising her love of research, learning, and self-proclaimed Type-A personality to plan detailed and interesting itineraries for her clients, Kara likens the art of creating a bespoke travel itinerary to recipe creation from her days as a dietitian - starting with the main ingredients that are essential to the ‘recipe’ - the flights, hotels, and days spent in each location, the adding the ‘secret sauce’ - a dash of personal knowledge and experience, a measure of ‘space’ to allow for spontaneity, and finally a pinch of ‘unexpected delights’ - that takes the dish, or in this case, the journey, from bland to delicious!
