Y WISDOM: “Make sure to write your email address on your baggage tag and take a photo of your bags prior travelling in order to help track lost luggage.  Better still, pack a tracking tag such as an Apple Airtag, so you can always see where your bag is in the world, even if the airline can’t!”

Shelley McWhinney's journey into the world of travel began at the tender age of 18, driven by an innate passion for exploration. Straight out of school, she embarked on her career as a travel consultant, orchestrating unforgettable adventures for others. However, after three years of igniting wanderlust in her clients, Shelley felt the call of adventure herself.  At 21, armed with nothing but a backpack and a Eurail pass, she embarked on a year-long odyssey through Europe, culminating in a stint in London where she found herself back in the familiar embrace of the travel industry.

Her year in the UK proved transformative, not only fostering numerous travel opportunities but also leading to a serendipitous encounter with her future husband on the ski slopes of Austria. This pivotal moment ignited Shelley's enduring love affair with the outdoors, with skiing in the Austrian Alps and the Dolomites etched as cherished memories. From exhilarating helicopter rides over Victoria Falls to epic road trips through Monument Valley National Park, Shelley's travel escapades have been nothing short of extraordinary.

Despite the inevitable challenges of the travel industry, Shelley's unwavering dedication and resilience have earned her the moniker of 'Grace Under Pressure' within the office. Her ability to maintain composure in times of crisis ensures her clients experience smooth sailing, even amidst turbulent times. Fuelled by a lifelong passion for exploration and bolstered by decades of industry experience, Shelley finds immense joy in helping clients craft their own lifelong memories, making her an invaluable asset to the Y Travel team.
