A week in the life of Dana : Italy & France.
Meet Dana, one of our famed staff members at Y Travel who has just returned from a whirlwind trip traveling through Italy and France. Two countries known for their rich culture, history, stunning landscapes and impeccable food and wine experiences. As a seasoned traveller with a passion for adventure and exploration, Dana is always on the lookout for hidden gems and unique experiences that can make her journey even more memorable. This trip she was lucky enough to attend DUCO and experience some of our stunning partner hotels featured below.
Photos from Belmond’s Castello Di Casole
Favourite Hotel Aesthetically: Belmond : Castello Di Casole
Why: Feels like you are literally in a castle in a small village, surrounded by rolling hills and sprawling vineyards. I love the facade of the terracotta exterior mixed with exposed brick throughout the property. A Tuscan retreat which has been tastefully restored cherishing the history of the place.
Favourite Hotel Service wise: Belmond : Castello Di Casole
Why: Staff were always friendly, attentive and efficient. One step ahead of the game. This was reflected throughout the property, whether it be from reception, the room or across all public/dining areas.
Favourite Hotel that embodies a key Y Factor: Belmond : Castello Di Casole and Le Bristol
Why: Castello Di Casole - Nature & Sustainability and Le Bristol - Taste (has 2 x Michelin restaurants)
Favourite Hotel for Families or Multi-Gen: Belmond : Castello Di Casole
Why: Many great family options in terms of rooms and some wonderful activities for the whole family - stargazing, truffle hunting, pizza making, scenic hikes, bike rides etc
Most unsuspecting Hotel (what were you most surprised by): Le Bristol Paris
Why: I anticipated it would be a lovely property yet just loved the feel of the hotel as soon as I walked through the doors. Located in fashionable Paris, it is not pretentious in any way. One is met by warm, friendly and professional staff. Nothing too much trouble. Service quick and impeccable. Its two Michelin star restaurants provide an incredible French gastronomic experience. Dinner at 114 Faubourg was a standout meal of my 2 weeks away and my bean and artichoke salad at Cafe Antonia, for lunch, was one of the best salads I have had in my life.
Best Hotel Room: Belmond : Hotel Cipriani, Venice
Why: Firstly, it's Venice! Secondly, for its location! My room, which was a Suite with a lagoon view and balcony, was literally overlooking the lagoon. I could’ve sat there all day. Decor was gorgeous in colour and has a strong Venetian influence mixed with a modern flare which I love.
Best Experience Overall: Belmond Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express
Why: I’m a big fan of train journeys and just love to sit back and watch the world go by, to watch the terrain and scenery change. This particular journey was truly a magical and unique experience. You really feel as though you have stepped back in time. One is given a chance to dress up, to socialise and relive the golden age of travel, it’s a true time capsule where accommodation, food and service is of the highest standard.
Favourite 5 products from DUCO (I put 6)
Hotel La Rocca
Naturalis Bio Resort & Spa
Il Salviatino
Hotel Le Fontanelle + Club House
Palazzo Fiuggi
Singer Palace Roma
Whilst attending Duco I stayed at the Four Seasons Florence - an urban retreat in the heart of Florence. Perfect for families who are wanting space, an outdoor swimming pool (especially in the heat of Summer). The property caters for all ages and is also great for Multi-Gen enquiries. Not for those first timers to Florence, I would recommend for 2nd/3rd visits as approx a 25 minute walk into the centre.
