Newly Reborn Hotels to Reignite Your Travel Lust

Have you ever wondered how hotels maintain their relevance? How they keep up with dizzyingly rapid changes in technology, interior design, and service? The answer is simple: they refresh, revamp, refurb and renovate. From minor updates, like a fresh lick of paint, to major overhauls, hotels are in a constant state of rebirth. Below are some of the most gorgeous glow ups we’ve seen – and are waiting to drool over – in 2023!

Mandarin Oriental Singapore

Mandarin Oriental Singapore – the high-end brand’s only property in the country – is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar renovation, which has seen curtains closed on the iconic Marina Bay hotel until September 2023. What we can expect from the luxury brand is a complete reimagining of accommodation, lobby, dining concepts, and Oriental Club – including fresh new experiences. We’re excited to see what the facelift involves and will keep you updated – stay tuned!

Carlton Cannes

For nearly two and a half years, Cannes’ most famous hotel – the Carlton – has been closed for a significant renovation by Regent Hotels & Resorts (one of the most luxurious brands in the Intercontinental Hotel Group’s collection). Now it’s lights and action again, with the chic hotel reopening as Carlton Cannes. The new iteration boasts 332 updated rooms, plus 37 brand new residences (for long term stays), and a courtyard featuring the largest infinity pool in Cannes, adorned with chic cabanas and sunbathing decks. Considering the works involved more than 750 handpicked craftspeople and artisans, we’re looking forward to heading over to immerse ourselves in the best Promenade de la Croisette has to offer, and we can’t wait to get you there either!

Regent Hong Kong

The countdown is on for the grand reopening of Regent Hong Kong, which is slated for June 2023. So far, we’ve seen glimpses of its stunning transformation, which has been in the works for more than two years. Set on the edge of the majestic Victoria Harbour, the legendary hotel called on visionary Hong Kong-born, Milan-based designer Chi Wing Lo to create a design language integrating storied heritage, serene aesthetics, and the Regent signature Beauty of Contrasts. Representing a new era for the brand as a storied and heritage luxury icon, the renovation builds on its founding ambition to take modern luxury to new heights. Regent Hong Kong brings these new brand foundations to life through daring design, innovative restaurants and bars, and immersive experiences underpinned by service that works behind the scenes to create an endless sense of calm to enable uplifting experiences.

Belmond Maroma Riviera

The Mayan Riviera is set to become even more luxurious, with the reopening of one of the region’s most popular hotels, Belmond Maroma. The Mexican coastal hideaway closed last April to undergo renovations and will reopen in the coming weeks (hopefully!) after an extensive transformation. New and returning guests can expect to find 10 new waterfront suites, a nature-focused wellness spa - and the first Guerlain Spa in Latin America – as well as new gastronomic delights curated by Mexican-born executive chef Daniel Camacho.

Rosa Alpina San Cassiano

Speaking of hotels being reborn, Rosa Alpina – which has been the base for exploring Italy’s majestic UNESCO-protected Dolomites since the 1930’s – is preparing to enter a new era as an Aman property after an extensive refurbishment. Slated to reopen for the 2024/5 winter season, Rosa Alpina is expected to undergo a complete remodelling of all guestrooms, as well as architectural enhancements to the exterior and interior. The illustrious property will also have its wellness and gastronomy offerings extended. Y Travel loyalists know the Dolomites hold a special place in our collective hearts, so we will be keeping you across developments of this huge facelift!

Hotel Son Net Puigpunyent

Prepare yourself for the ultimate luxury retreat in Mallorca – Gran Hotel Son, which is expected to open soon (dates TBC!). Nestled in the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, this 17th-century private estate will leave you in awe with its breathtaking views of the traditional Mallorcan village of Puigpunyent behind a backdrop of the Sierra Tramuntana. The historical building has undergone a massive transformation, and the now world-class 5-star hotel seamlessly blends its charming past with modern amenities, 31 guestrooms and suites, all of which showcase the original architectural features, citrus orchards, a private vineyard and lush gardens. Guests will also enjoy several swimming pools and elegant gastronomy.

LifeHouse Palm Springs

This vintage 66-room property originally built in 1965 will be the first West Coast offering by the trendy and rapidly growing LifeHouse brand. Inspired by the architecture and roots of the building, the concept honours mid-century modernism in a fresh and surprising manner that infuses Japanese minimalism with desert botanical muses. We can expect to see an expansive exterior, including pool bar and cabanas (would it be Palm Springs without?), an interior Living Room, and guest room suites with private terraces overlooking the mountains.
